SWAF studio director Emmanuel Beltrando talks to us today about the next Gosu X expansions, with the arrival of the two expansions Abunakkashii and Rukgnarl in english this autumn.
Q. Rukgnarl is the second expansion for Gosu X. How many are planned?
R. The basic game is made up of 8 clans. Abunakkashii and Ruk (his nickname) are part of the first Arc, which will be released as 4 expansions.
Q. Is Rukgnarl based on the corruption token concept?
R. Corruption is very present in this Arc. It will become increasingly important and powerful with the arrival of Ruk.
Q. With Ruk, there will be 10 clans. How will the draft work?
R. To draft Gosu X with Rukgnarl, i.e. with 10 clans, here are the steps to follow:
Ban phase: Place the 10 clan tiles in front of you. Randomly select the first player to « banish » a clan. You remove this tile and clan from the game. If the banished clan has an Akasha card, place it to the side of the board, its effect affecting all players during the game. The second player then takes his turn to « banish » a clan. You also remove both this tile and this clan from the game. If the second banished clan has an Akasha card, place it on the side of the board, its effect affecting all players for the duration of the game.
Draft phase: Set up the remaining 8 tiles and start your draft as in the basic version of the game. The first player remains the same as in the Ban phase. He will also start the game.
Q. Oh, this is going to change the meta a lot!
R. Yes, Ruk is going to shake up the meta a bit on several levels!
Q. What does that mean?
R. The evolution cards will change a lot of our usual habits. Abu will be happy with a bit of Umbra and a little Up on Yume. The other cards will bring some « Solo » but also, for example, a new victory condition in the game…
Q. On a pu voir quelques mots clés comme Shadowstep, Umbra et Solo, de quoi s’agit-il ?
R. A card with Shadowstep can be played according to the usual laying rules. However, it also has the following capabilities:
It can be played as a free replacement for a captured card. In this case, the player does not pay for a card from his hand to be played at level 1, even if his clan is not present in the line. What’s more, if a card is placed in the level 2 (or 3) line, its clan doesn’t have to be present in level 1 (or 2) to put it into play (as with a shift). It’s important to note that a captured card that is replaced by a Shadowstep card is placed in the discard pile and is not considered destroyed by this action.
During your turn, instead of your action, you can « Attempt a Shadowstep ». To do so, choose a face-up card in play with Shadowstep (or with a Shadowstep token), then announce that this card will « Attempt a Shadowstep ». Then reveal the next card in your deck:
If the revealed card has the same level as the card that « Attempts a Shadowstep », then the revealed card immediately replaces the card that « Attempted a Shadowstep » and activates its in-game arrival effect, if it has one. The card thus replaced is placed in the discard pile, without being considered destroyed by this action.
If the revealed card has a different level from the card that « Attempted a Shadowstep », then the revealed card is placed in the discard pile and the card that « Attempted a Shadowstep » is captured.
For Umbra, during your turn, instead of your action, you can take a Corruption token to activate a card with Umbra.
Solo is very simple: if, during the Great Battle, a Solo card is FREE, its army value is doubled!
Q. When is Rukgnarl scheduled for release?
R. If all goes well, in French and English for Essen week.
Q. What’s your favorite card in the expansion, and can you tell us about it?
R. I think it’s « Craz’yzz Glurk (Immortal) » and sorry, it’s already been revealed 🙂
Q. Why does it have the title (Immortal)?
R. I can’t answer that yet, it’s too soon, much too soon.
Q. When will the new cards be revealed?
R. There will be a few every month until release!
